PAIR Center Celebrates Black History Month: Celebrating Black Pioneers in Science and Medicine: Then and Now

February 1, 2022

Excerpt

Welcome to Black History Month!

Noted historian and author Dr. Carter G. Woodson’s commitment to celebrating the accomplishments of Black people led to the launch of Black History Month, an occasion that has been marked every February since 1976. Dr. Woodson recognized early the importance of developing a theme to focus public attention, not with the intention of limiting exposure to the Black experience, but to drive awareness of significant and timely issues for Black Americans that merit broader social emphasis.

Following cues from the Association for the Study of African-American Life and History (ASALH) and their spotlight on Black Health and Wellness in 2022, and our expanding commitment to health equity, the inaugural theme for celebrating Black History Month at PAIR is: Black Pioneers in Science and Medicine, Then and Now.
