Pallavi Kumar

Biography

Dr. Pallavi Kumar is focused on improving the quality of communication between patients with advanced cancer and their providers. She helped to start the outpatient palliative oncology program at the Abramson Cancer Center of the University of Pennsylvania. She is also a practicing medical oncologist, caring  for patients with GI malignancies at the Abramson Cancer Center.  

 

After graduating from Binghamton University with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting, Dr. Kumar worked in audit and business advisory services for PricewaterhouseCoopers, LLP, in New York City before completing post-baccalaureate pre-medical studies. She then completed medical school at the Duke University School of Medicine. She went on to complete residency in internal medicine and palliative medicine fellowship at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, followed by a second fellowship in hematology/oncology at the Dana-Farber Harvard Cancer Center combined fellowship program.

 

During her oncology fellowship, she completed a Master of Public Health degree at the Harvard School of Public Health. In 2014, Dr. Kumar returned to Penn to help develop the outpatient palliative oncology program. She is primarily interested in quality improvement in communication surrounding advanced cancer and end-of-life decision-making.    

 

Dr. Kumar lives with her husband, daughter, and son in Philadelphia.
