Congratulations to Drs. Joanna Hart and Hao Tong for receiving Best Abstract for Health Equity Awards!

The peer review committee for the Department of Medicine Research Day selected Dr. Joanna Hart’s abstract, “Smoking Cessation Interventions among Underserved Patients Referred for Lung Cancer Screening,” as the Best Faculty Abstract for Health Equity. Dr. Hart’s abstract and poster shared the results from the PCORI-funded smoking cessation study.

The committee also selected Dr. Hao Tong’s abstract, “Language-concordance in Primary Care: A Mixed-methods Analysis of Patient-Clinician Dyad,” as the Best Resident/Fellow Abstract for Health Equity. Under the mentorship of Dr. Hart, Dr. Tong’s research centers on language equity in healthcare.

Dr. Caitlin Clancy, Vice Chief of Health Equity and Community Engagement for the Division of Pulmonary, Allergy, and Critical Care Medicine, presented the awards at the Department of Medicine Research Day Awards Ceremony on June 9, 2026.
